South Africa Medal to Staff Surgeon Barrow, Staff Medical Services.

Inspector General Thomas Waller Barrow entered the service as assistant Surgeon June 8th 1841. He served with the 2nd (Queens Royals)in the Sind Dessert after the Battle of  Meanee in 1843 when four forts were captured. In the Southern Mahratta War of 1844 he was present at the storming and capture of Fort Punella and took part in the campaign in the Concan 1845.He was also engaged in the Kaffir War and the Crimean campaign. In August 1864 he was sent to Bermuda as principle medical officer of a medical relief force to cope with an outbreak of Yellow Fever. For this service he was promoted to Deputy Inspector General.In 1865 he was appointed Principal Medical Officer of Nova Scotia, and in 1866 to the same position at Woolwich and London District.
